Permit guides
The Permit-Ready ADU program, the eTRAKiT portal, hazard-zone exclusions, and how review works — in plain language.
Last updated October 2026. Rules change; always confirm current requirements with the city before you build.
For property inside incorporated Rocklin, permits go through the City of Rocklin Community Development Permit Center at 3970 Rocklin Road, Rocklin, CA 95677 — (916) 625-5120 — not Placer County. Submittals run through the city's eTRAKiT portal. Rocklin approves or denies a complete, qualifying permit-ready ADU application within 30 days; custom designs take longer once engineering, revisions, and utility coordination are counted.
The city offers a "Permit-Ready ADU" program with pre-designed plans that shorten review time. But there's an important exclusion: properties in Wildland-Urban Interface, special flood hazard, or geologic hazard zones don't qualify for the expedited route — those timelines run longer. Given Rocklin's rolling terrain and hillside edges, check your parcel's hazard designations before counting on the fast track.
Fees follow valuation. Rocklin's permit costs are based on project valuation, with plan check generally at 75% of the building permit fee — so a larger or more elaborate ADU compounds in more than one place. The most cost-controlled route is typically a permit-ready plan under 750 sq ft on a straightforward parcel.
Not sure where to start? That's the part we do. We check your parcel's hazard designations, compare the permit-ready and custom paths, and manage the submittal and corrections — one point of contact.
Not sure where to start? That's what we're here for.
